    Assistant Professor, Human Development and Family Science, Sociology

    Dr. Catherine García's (she/they) research focuses on the dynamics of the aging process in Latina/o/x populations in the United States and Puerto Rico. She specifically addresses the overlooked issues of heterogeneity and variability within the Latina/o/x population using an intersectional and life course perspective. Their work aims to better understand how social conditions and statuses among Latina/o/xs become biologically embedded, influencing age-related diseases, conditions, and outcomes.

  • Merril Silverstein, PhD

    Professor, Sociology, Human Development and Family Science

    Dr. Merril Silverstein (he/him/his) holds the Marjorie Cantor Chair in Aging Studies at Syracuse University where he is Professor in the Departments of Sociology and Human Development and Family Science. His research focuses on aging in the context of family life, with an emphasis on intergenerational relations over the life course and international-comparative perspectives.
